18 Under 18: The Best and Brightest of Ashtabula County

Do you know an impressive individual between the ages of 10 and 18? Do you know a young person who represents the future leaders, change makers, and innovators in Ashtabula County? Maybe you consider yourself one of these students! If so, Junior Achievement's 18 Under 18 is designed to recognize and empower Ashtabula County's up-and-coming youth!

In partnership with the Gazette Newspapers, our inaugural 18 Under 18 awards program will honor the most extraordinary young people in Ashtabula County. This event will showcase the county's up-and-comers who show exceptional entrepreneurial spirit, and an overall extraordinary skill set. Honorees will be featured in the Gazette Newspaper Publication- Official Program, profiled on the Junior Achievement of Eastern Ohio website, have opportunities to network with community leaders, and be recognized for their accomplishments at a formal awards ceremony.

Nominee Criteria:

Nominees must attend school in Ashtabula County (Ohio) and be between the ages of 10 to 18. Nominees must also be able to attend the 18 Under 18 reception event on May 17, 2023. The eighteen recipients will be featured in the Gazette Newspapers and various local media outlets, as well as benefit from a meaningful network of community leaders. Involvement in JA programs is not required; however, involvement in JA programs is considered favorably during the evaluation process.

Below you will find additional information on judging criteria, which are broken down into three categories.

1. Innovative Spirit- defined by a student's demonstrated:
-Initiative to meet a defined problem/need for a defined group or customer, through a solution-oriented approach
-An innovative mindset that encourages creative thinking, experimentation, and tolerable risk

2. Leadership- defined by a student's demonstrated:
-Leadership Skills (Open Category: confidence, time management, etc.)
-Team Work (Communication; problem solving; collaboration; integrating perspectives)
-Ethics (Respect; Integrity; Understanding Differences)

3. Community (and/or) School Involvement- defined by a student's demonstrated:
-Sense of caring for and about others
-Volunteerism
-Community Awareness
-Involvement in school clubs, activities, sports, academic achievements, etc.


The deadline for nominations is March 31, 2023. All submissions must include:
-Completed nomination form
-One letter of reference from someone other than the nominator (attach to nomination form)

Optional (not required):
-A creative submission to support the nomination (photo, video, PowerPoint, song, etc. attached to the nomination form)
